With all the stuff going on in Politics right now and in remembrance of a friend that I never met but felt I knew real well. I put this out. I wrote this while in college.
A person is such like a diamond
The many facets are the faces of the human being.
Misery, happiness, intrigue, desires,
Are all found inside.
The color does not matter in life,
As does the diamond.
But Life cannot have a price
It is more precious than any diamond
Yet the diamond is treated with more respect.
Such a paradox should not exist.
The solution is to value the life.
As the diamond's shine
All be the other's best friend,
And the world will shine as the diamond.
Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you're in a non-same-sex marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

Well, I'm on the verge. I've got a lease, got the money, got the fixtures and merchandise.
I'm shooting for around 10/1 for an opening.
I've chosen the name J & M Comics and Games, after the kids. If you have another suggestion I'd love to hear it. Creativity has not been my strong point.
Next is the artwork for signs, business cards etc.
So an informal poll. Please tell me which font do you think should be it.
1) J & M Comics and Games

OK as mentioned in an earlier post, we're coming to Boston (or Derry NH where we are staying).
We are meeting at Saigon Noodle in Malden Center Friday 8/1 at 6:30pm for dinner. Please post if you think you can make it.

The family is heading north in two weeks for the annual summer visit to family. This year's a bit different. Mom is now in Londonderry NH and my sister is in Derry NH (Convenient huh!).
Anyways, we'll be staying with my mom in Londonderry but have no solid plans for anything while we're in New England except for saturday 8/2 for a family BBQ.
We're planning a Pho run to Saigon Noodle
in Malden on Friday Aug 1. We'd like to bring the kids so it would be a foo around 6pm or so. If you're interested, please let me know.
If you're interested in getting together other times during the first week of August, let me know.

So I got hit by a box truck just before I went on my business trip. I'm ok. The guy took a right turn from the left turn only lane and had no turn signal on indicating a right turn. I was in the right lane. It was my 96 Corrolla (150K mi on it). I've got a Prius as a rental and after driving it for one day, I'm intrigued. I'd love to hear from other people's experiences with the car because I'm pretty much going to have to replace the corolla. I was hoping to wait until the other car was paid off in August.
Day 1 experiences
+Gas mileage: I drive 35 miles each way to work. According to the computer, I averaged 44.9mpg.
+Pickup: It has better pickup than my Corolla. There's no direct way to work so I drive on back roads through hills. I was very pleased with the performance.
+/-: Handling: was a little weird. was stiffer than I was used to but that may be due to: being a new car, being unfamiliar with the car or just the larger wheelbase.
+/-: not hearing the engine. When it shuts off at a stop light it feels like its going to stall and I keep wanting to push down the clutch.
-: dashboard indicators: they seem so far away and the dashboard is huge. seems like a waste of space. Its cool to watch the power gauges indicate where the power is coming from either the gas or electric motor. The downside, since it's new, I am watching it instead of the road.
+ Coolness: The touchscreen panel for the controls though its weird to be in the middle of the car.
-: The steering wheel is smaller than a regular car's so it kinda feels like driving a video game steering wheel.
--: Power outlet: Its practically at the passenger's knees and out of reach to fiddle with my Ipod cradle. also the radio wasn't really good for picking up the FM signal from the cradle so I gave up trying to listen to my Ipod.
I will probably be driving this for the next 2 weeks so I should have a good long test drive to get a sense of what its really like over time.

|Am I doing the right thing?
Forgive me friends, its been 133 weeks since my last posting. I do read you all daily though.I'm a reader and not a writer but I've come to a point where I guess I need to ask a question as to whether I'm doing the right thing.
2 years ago, a friend needed help. We took him in and gave him a roof over his head. He's in his early 20's. We gave him a place to get his life back together. The agreement was to get a job, get his Drivers license, get his GED and help with chores around the house.

|Oh what a weekend!
Bea and I have been crazy busy with school ending and neighborhood
politics. Sometimes I really hate living in suburbia. So I had scored a
pair of tickets for John Prine at the Keswick Theater
outside of Philly. We had left the kids with Bea's parents in
Wilmington. After spending the night in a hotel, we went to
LaSalle Univ., where Bea had gotten her undergrad degree. We
headed to downtown Philly and spent most of the afternoon walking
around the city. We went to the Polish-American cultural center
and viewed their little museum before heading up to Independence
Mall. You know its pretty sad when the areas which are the roots
of American freedom are so secure you have to walk around a city block
to get around it. By the time we got there at 2pm, there were no
more tickets available to get into the liberty bell or independence
hall. Glad I did this touristy stuff 25 years ago.
Anyways we then walked down to South Street to take in the local
color. For those of you that don't know, its a street that people
cruise in their cars to be seen. Its also full of bars, clubs and
all sorts of boutiques. Great place to people watch. We
were getting tired so we stopped in this Irish pub called the Blarney
and had a few beers. A friend of mine lives nearby so I gave him
a call and he joined us for a couple. After that, Bea and I
went to a moroccan restaurant called Fez
It was an 8 course meal that was out of this world. There was
also belly dancing. At the end of our meal, the belly dancer
pulled Bea up to dance with her. After she was finished, the
belly dancer came over and asked Bea where she had trained!! I
just laughed and said, "she's always danced like that as long as I've
known her!" After tea, we wandered down South Street to our car
and headed back to Bea's parents.
Great weekend. Good enough to drain a majority of the built up
stress. Only 3 weeks before a week long vacation in Stone Harbor
Current Mood: relaxed

|for the parents out there, you'll understand
So Bea had her dentist's appointment at 7am. She got up and left. I went back to sleep because the kids were quiet. Bea called at 7:45 to see how I was doing. She woke me up but said that Maggie was awake when she left. so I get out of bed and dress, head to maggie's room. Maggie was at the window looking out. She sees me and says hi Daddy and points to her bum and says something about diaper and points to the diaper pail. Thinking that she'd thrown toys or something in the pail, I look. While the pail has obviously been moved, there's nothing in it but diapers. So I ask her, "do you need a diaper change?" She says yes and comes over to the changing table. I pick her up under her shoulders and she feels wet. No big deal, she went to bed with water and sometimes she overflows the diaper. Given the fact that it was almost 8am I thought that was the issue. WRONG!! I put her on the table and lift her nightie to find NO DIAPER. She had unbuttoned her onesie underneath the nightie and had thrown it into the trash. "Maggie where is your diaper??" "In the trash" she says. So I get her dressed and then notice the pile of clothes next to her bed. Yep she piddled on the floor and had used her clothes to "mop" it up.

Fun weekend. We all went up to Delaware to my in-laws and got to see our niece and nephew. We had an early Easter dinner then we left Maggie to spend a few days alone with her grandparents. Jason, Bea and I headed back home. Jason is now an only child again. After Bea spent the morning singing her throat out in morning services, we took Jason to see Robots. Good movie. Very Entertaining. The most important thing was Jason loved it.
Got to see the new Star Wars trailer. Looks good but given the prior 2 movies, I'll hold my judgement. I just HOPE that the trailer didn't have the best parts of the movie.

|another Terri S. Rant
Like everyone else, I've been talking a lot with other people about
this case. I went on a mini rant in an email discussion but I felt,
with some editing, I would post it here to add my voice to the chaos
chorus. Feel free to ignore

To the person in front of me at the gas pump.
WOULD YOU PLEASE MOVE YOUR SUV FROM THE PUMP WHEN YOU FINISH PUMPING YOUR GAS!!!!!
Seriously, she was sitting there, in her car reading the newspaper. I beeped after waiting a minute. I knew she was done because I saw her pull a couple of feet away from the pump but far from being enough for me to slip in. She ignored the first beep. Then I made the next one a little louder to get her attention. Her response was to roll down the window and give me the finger!! After another 3 minutes of reading, she finally moved. By that time I had gone to another pump. Feel the love everyone.
On a positive note, I saw a big fat male cardinal on my deck this morning. Spring can't be too far away.

|Sleeping on air
The new bed arrived yesterday. Oh boy after one night I'm sold on the Sleep Number bed.
Its replacing a futon that is older than my marraige.
The only funny thing right now is that the bed is as high as my hip bone. Its sitting on the futon frame and the box spring/mattress is pretty high. For reference, the futon was about 12-14 inches lower.
